Lake Winnipesaukee

Heading up to the big lake in NH labor day weekend through the following weekend. Lucky enough to be renting a cabin on the water and the goal is to get out as much as possible and wet a line. I haven't been there since I was about 7 years old, so looking to see if anyone's been in recent history, and if they have any recommendations. I know the lake's known for its salmon and trout, but from what I gather, you really need to get down deep to reach them, and I'm not set up with downriggers on my boat. That leaves me to primarily chasing bass around the lake. Anyone have any recommendations on places to try or look out for? Fishing related or otherwise...
Sure, trust the government, just ask the Indians how that turns out

i have always associated Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire as the Small mouth lake of the world.. i myself have never fished the lake but from i what i have read and have seen on TV , all i can tell you is bring white grubs and jigs chartreuse , small spinner baits in yellow and white ,and small crank baits. like a cray fish or rattle trap your post spawn and pre fall feeding ..low and slow.. but who am i to talk today i fished for hours from the banks of the songo river and got skunked. the water is hot fish are lazy.
Good luck at the lake dont for get your camera..and do you need a milfoil sticker like here in Maine? try hitting the drop off in 20-35 feet Thumbs up

Your heading up to Winni in a few months and I'm heading up to Squam in 2 weeks. I've never fished Winni but would think it's very much like Squam. Both lakes have excellent small mouth fishing and they are what I will be targeting.

Since I will be hitting Squam the begining of the spawn, I'll be on the lookout for beds and fish the shallows up to ~8'. Senkos that Jay is making me will be the #1 lure I use, color will be dont know . I will als use Pop-R's and Spitten Images, love the top water bite. There are a ton of other things that work, I just use those. You will be up there at the end of the summer, early morning and evenings I would use Pop-R's or some other similar popper. Early and late that time of year will be your best shot at fish.

I highly suggest getting a good map of the lake, I would not go out on Squam or Winni without one. In both lakes there are areas with rocks just inches under the water in the middle of nowhere. As much as they are a hazard to boaters, they are also excellent areas to fish for bronzebacks.

I might be there in June. Bike week. Fished there lots of times for bass. Very busy lake. No one on it at night. Fishing kicked butt at night. Black spinner blades rocked SMB at night. In the day we needed to go deep per lots of boaters. I like Black worms with a Char tail. Works in all of New England lakes for me.

You should make somes calls to local tackle shops and find some local sites. More info before heading there the better.
