CONTEST RULES **Annual Contest**

There will be a Grand Slam Recognition award for any member landing minimum weight of Striped Bass and Bluefish, as well as a Bonito and False Albacore in any given calendar month.
*Unless noted, contest will run from April, through November 30th.
1. - Striped Bass and Bluefish caught from Surf or Boat will compete equally for Largest Striped Bass for the year, fly rod and for the month Or Largest Bluefish for the year. Surf is a special recognition award for biggest in that category and may qualify for both overall and specific category. - Blacked out area's are non qualifying categories. - Family Member is wife of member and Children/ Grand Children who have not graduated high school. Family membership is not necessary to enter.

Striped Bass caught from Surf or Boat will compete equally. Fish entry must be submitted 48 hours of catch to qualify. Electronic submission will qualify. Catch and Release will qualify for Striped Bass providing measurements and either witness name or photo is provided. See general rules for catch and release. Catch and Release Tournament Artificials only.
Four Hour Tournament. Saturday, July 19th. Rain Date Saturday July 20th.

Monthly Largest Striped Bass- May thru November Minimum Weight 15 lbs. The largest striped bass each month entered will be the winner of the monthly striped bass award. The prize for 2008 is a WSBC shirt. (Size based on availability) In the event a monthly winner has won in a previous month, the largest bass of the month will go the next in line who has not won a shirt. In the event of only 1 submission in any month , that person will receive a shirt regardless of his previous win (s).
Bass Man of the Year - May through November Minimum Weight 15 lbs. For 1st /2nd - 34 inches for 3rd. In addition each month a member will be eligible for points for their fish that is entered. "
Largest Bass for the month 3 points (Length and Girth) " Second Largest Bass 2 points (Length and Girth) " All qualifying Bass over 34 inches 1 ( One bass per member per month providing the member does not qualify for 1st or 2nd place in the same given month. No limit on how many different members can qualify for third place in any month. " There will be ½ point added to any score providing the fish was either caught from the Surf or on an Artificial. An angler can only qualify for one position each month. No limit on how many different members can get one point for third place each month. Only length (fork of tail) is necessary to qualify for third place. The angler with the most points at the end of the year will be the BASS MAN OF THE YEAR.
In the event a participant who has won this prize in either of the last two year wins the Bass Man, the prize and acknowledgement of WSBC Bass Man will go to the first runner up. Both Surf and Boat compete equally. The contest runs 7 months from May through November. For 2008 the First place winner will receive a Bass Man Jacket.
General Rules
1) All Fish must be caught in season. Season is considered regulations established by CT DEP and NY DEP, regardless to where fish is caught. (Another words, if caught in NY waters, it must be open in CT and NY to qualify.) All fish must be in open season in CT if caught in NY.
2) You must be a due paying member prior to catching an eligible fish for submission.
4) In order to qualify for a prize at the end of the year, you must have attended at least 3 club events, with the exception of life time members. 4) All fish must be caught in a sporting manner on hook and line. No intentional snagging or gaffing of either live or dead fish not attached to a line.

Westport Striped Bass Club Scale is not valid until approved by the fish committee.
6) Catch and Release for Striped Bass may be used in place of a weigh in. The formula is as follows: " (Girth x Girth x Length) /800. " Length will be measure from snout to INSIDE FORK OF TAIL. IGFA Rule where fish length is length of body, not the surface curve. " Tape Measure must be used at time of measurement, (Fishline, string, rope etc will not qualify. Purchase a $2 tape from any fabric store.) " Photo or witness is required for catch and release. Photo only needs to be available if requested. (Some people keep a cardboard camera on board and can develop if proof is requested, digital and cell phone pictures are ok).
7) All entries must be within 10 days in the month following claimed catch with the exception of derbies, which must be entered by 48 hours of the catch. You may submit an entry in one of three manners:
a) A signed affidavit (slip of paper), by an employee of one of the three recognized weigh in tackle dealers (Jimmy O's, Bridgeport / Fisherman's World, Norwalk, Westport Outfitters - Cove Marina Norwalk ) that shows your name, type of fish, weight, date caught and a signature of an employee of that tackle dealer. The contestant should also enter the following critical information: " Location of catch (Norwalk, Eaton's Neck, Stamford, Westport Etc. " Please indicate if it qualifies for Fly rod or Surf, Articial caught category if a Striped Bass. " Your E-mail or phone number if possible. The affidavit, can be handed in at a meeting, put in the VFW scale mailbox, given to one of the fish committee members or information sent by e mail (see below).
b) If a striped bass is a catch and release, record the critical catch and release information also.
c) Electronic submission of entries providing all critical information in section (a) or catch and release information is shown. It's important to note the location and person who weighed the fish in for later verification. Please send to WSBCFISHC@aol.com
8) All fish must be caught within the club boundaries. The boundaries for all Westport Striped Bass Club contest are as follows:
" Milford Point to Port Jefferson Harbor= East Point Byrum River West Bank -Greenwich to Maniticock Point. " Boats must leave from within the CT. shore boundary. No fish will be accepted from New York shoreline. " All CT waters and New York waters within these boundaries, including estuaries, harbors ECT. are eligible waters providing your port is from inbound CT..
9) The standing will be posted at minimum monthly by E Mail / read monthly at each club meeting and maintained on the club board at the VFW scale.
10) In the event of any tie or discrepancy, the decision of the fish committee will be final. The committee has the right to make any changes, interpretation and exceptions to the above rules in order to maintain fair play and sportsmanship. Any submission of photo's to the fish committee may be used for promotion of the club or club-sponsored events. AWARDS Awards will be subject to the decision of the fish committee. However, they may not be in the form of tackle or cash unless approved by the club membership with the exception of a Calcutta, which is funded by the member's participation.
The Grand Prizewinner for the largest Striped Bass and Blue Fish will retain a silver tray from January 1st Through December 31st of the following year in which his name, and weight of fish will be engraved on the plate. In order to permanently retain the silver tray, an individual must win the Grand Prize three times, not necessarily in succession. The tray and all previous winners' names will be retired when the Award is permanently presented. A new silver tray will be started from scratch until the next winner's name appears three times.
In addition the GRAND Prize Winner, "Largest Striper of the Year Trophy" will stand out above all other trophies. Fish Committee The fish committee is made up of Mike Hayes, Sam Bell, Phil Restieri, Jr.and Jim Christensen. (At times the fish committee may challenge a submission based on hear say or chose to validate a fish by inquiries to other members and non members. All members are subject to challenge regardless of status or tenor with the club. This is only done to maintain the integrity of the contest, so please don't be offended if we ask a question or two.) Calcutta's In order to promote the spirit of competition within the club, there will be two Calcutta contests on separate weekends for 2008. These contest are only open to members of the Westport Striped Bass Club.

1st. Place Prize - Gift Certificate 50% of Sum of Total Entry Fees.
2nd Place Prize - Gift Certificate 30% of Sum of Total Entry Fees.
* 3rd Place Prize - Gift Certificate 20% of Sum of Total Entry Fees.
* *In the event 3rd place is not claimed it will be prorated 15% to 1st and 5% to second. Standing during the Calcutta will be available by calling a selected voice mail during the entire contest in order to minimize keeping small or non-winning fish. The voice box number will be distributed on the registration form or by e-mail. In addition the standing will be sent out by E-mail daily. Only club members are eligible to participate in the contest. No family member or guest at this time. (It may be open to a guest or family depending on the discretion of the fish committee and if announced at a meeting prior to the contest.) All fish must be caught within the contest boundaries of the Westport Striped Club annual contest. In the event of any tie or discrepancy, the decision of WSBC fish committee will be final.
Boundaries are the boundaries as for the Westport Striped Bass Contest. They are as follows: " Milford Point to Port Jefferson Harbor " Byrum River to Mantinacock Point NY.
All CT waters and New York waters within these boundaries, including estuaries, harbors ECT. are eligible waters.
Prizes will be awarded at the club meeting following the Calcutta.
